WIND POWER:
Wind energy can now be captured efficiently over a broad range of wind speeds and direction. Aerodynamic improvements in blade design have cut the cost of wind power by 10 percent per year for the last 15 years. Utilities are taking long-term bids for wind electricity at 4 cents per kilowatt hour. The next generation wind turbine is projected to bring costs down to 3 cents per kilowatt-hour by 2002. These advances are helping wind energy markets grow an average of 25 percent each year.
